Bonefish:  Florida Keys

Picture

36" x 24"
Original Commission in Private Collection
Mixed Media on Canvas

Available only as Giclee on Canvas

Using only light tackle, the best anglers go after Bonefish.  The dazzling reflection of light on water in the Florida Keys makes them nearly invisible.  Catch and release, these rascals are considered inedible, unless you're a filet genius with razor sharp skills and great patience.

Tarpon: Florida Keys

Picture

24" x 36"
Original Commission
Mixed media on Canvas

Available only as Giclee on Canvas

Catching one of these ancient fish in the Florida Keys is a thrill of a lifetime.  They can weigh over 150 lbs, and some of the giants are over five feet in length.  They are strictly catch and release gamefish.

This piece was commissioned by an avid fisherman, and the original painting is in his private collection.  Giclee prints on canvas are available.

Sailing in the  Tuileries

Picture
48" x 36"  Unframed, Mixed Media on Canvas
Original and Giclee prints available

We were in the Tuileries Garden in Paris on a sunny April afternoon when a gentleman rolled out this cart filled with wooden sailboats.  He rented them to parents who first set the boats in the water fountain, and then relaxed with friends. Their children followed the boats for hours, running this way and that, around the fountain. When the wind carried the boats to the opposite side where they slowed to a stop, the kids were there waiting.  They used bamboo poles to nudge the bows and make the sailboats "come about".  What a day.

Three Miles Offshore

Picture
27" x 42" Framed under glass, Gouache on WC paper
Original and Giclee prints available

Each year, the Treasure Coast of Florida is home to thousands of loggerhead sea turtle nesting sites.  When these hatchlings emerge from their egg chamber they begin a monumental race for life.  Odds are not in their favor.  The 2 1/2" baby turtles must make it all the way out to the weed line before they can stop, rest, or eat for the first time.  This marathon can take days, and scientists think only one in one thousand will survive to adulthood when the females will return to their natal beach to repeat the ancient cycle of life.

Jellyfish - Delicate Mystery Adrift

Picture
7" x 10" Inks on wc paper
Giclee prints available

Out of 3,000 varieties of jellyfish only a few actually inflict a notoriously painful sting.  If you've ever suffered from a jellyfish sting though, you'll not forget.  They survive with no heart, no brain, and yet these delicate ocean drifters are found all over the world.
